Acting Rector of UNJ Attends the Education Rountable at National Institute of Education, Singapore

Public relations UNJ 27/07/2018 – Universitas Negeri Jakarta collaborated with the National Institute of Education in Singapore and University of Queensland to conduct the Education Roundtable which discussed about the increasing phenomenon of stakeholders types in shaping the educational realm. Education Roundtable held on July 26th 2018 which located at National Institute of Education, Singapore and themed “Stakeholders and the Changing Landscape of Education”.

Education nowadays has become the landscape to fill up the various gap of stakeholders’ interest, such as in state interest, non-government organization, association of elderly, teachers association and the ‘edu-business’ that has appeared and keeps growing recently. The attendance of McKinsey, Pearson and even KPMG, those are few of the edu-business examples from private organization that have significant role in education research.

In this event, the experts of education from different countries has discussed and analyzed critically the landscape of educational realm that always moving. The event was attended by Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D., Dr. Vicente Reyes – University of Queensland, Prof. Bob Lingard – University of Queensland, Prof. Robyn Gillies Jude Chua – National Institute of Education, Mr. Low Soon How – NIE Singapore, Dr. Hairon Salleh, Assistant Dean, Doctor in Education – NIE Singapore, Dr Sandra Wu –NIE Singapore and Dr. Uma Natarajan – HEAD Foundation.

In his speech, Acting Rector of UNJ who came with Vice Rector VI, Dr. Achmad Ridwan, Dr. Yuli Rahmawati and Dr. RA. Hirmana explained that higher education is the significant key to facilitate the economic growth and development. In his writing which titled “mapping and Empowering Higher Education Stakeholders in Indonesia”, acting Rector reveled that in 2050, Indonesia will become the top 4th of economic leading state in the world after China, India and United States. “In this sense, higher education plays a prominent role in preparing Indonesian young generation to become a competitive country globally. Higher education in Indonesia has faced obstacles to compete with other global higher education institutions and need to fit themselves immediately towards the changes whether at national and international scale. The global challenges tend to transform the organizations, policies and higher education strategies. This transformation focuses on competency development and empowering students as individuals, citizen and as a responsible agent of change, creative, innovative and able to provide meaningful contribution to the society, citizen and the world,” explained acting Rector.

To enclose, acting rector highlighted that the varieties of higher education conditions in Indonesia need to count in determining policies and national strategies. In developing competency, credibility and quality of education, there is a fundamental requirement needed, through collaboration between the stakeholders that will lead to the better quality of living. The government has responsible to generate policies and to respond both opportunities and obstacles strategically.
