PRESS CONFERENCE OF POMNAS XVI 2019

Public Relations of UNJ (9/13/2019) – DKI Jakarta and Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) were hosting the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) XVI 2019. With regards to this, a press conference was held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia office. The conference was led by the Minister, Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Ak., accompanied with the Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, as the Head of POMNAS Committee, as well as the Head of Youth and Sport Office of DKI Jakarta, Achmad Firdaus.

To have organized POMNAS fifteen times, the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, was now entrusting the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta to hold this sporting event for the sixteenth, and it has been a fortunate that UNJ was appointed as the coordinator and the host of POMNAS XVI 2019. One reason for the appointment is due to UNJ’s success in emerging as the consecutive overall champion of the previous events. “I have noticed that UNJ has always won the overall champion in the previous tournaments consecutively in Aceh and Makassar. It does not come to surprise since UNJ has had a lot number of student-athletes.” Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir revealed.

This biggest student sporting event would last from September 19 to 26, 2019. POMNAS XVI 2019 chose a theme of “Spirit, Sportive, and Achievement” , which is in line with the goals of POMNAS XVI:  to foster and promote unity, togetherness, and friendship among students all over the country; to help government improve and develop national or international achievements in sports; to build character education among students through sport.

“POMNAS aims to make students of all over the higher education institutions in Indonesia get to know each other; to generate national athletes with worldwide competitiveness; and to maintain cultural diversity among the students for the sake of unity and integrity of Indonesia”, Prof. Mohamad Nasir explained.

33 provinces with approximately 3,404 athletes and 1,337 officials took part in POMNAS XVI 2019 sporting event. The athletes were competing in 19 sports branches to fight over 713 medals. 18 venues to have been well-prepared by the committee were spread over the city, Jakarta in order to warmly welcome the athletes who have been the pride of the higher education institutions in the province. In addition to the above mentioned sport branches, POMNAS XVI 2019 presented four demonstration sports namely weight lifting, handball, cricket and e-sport.

The opening ceremony was held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at GSMB Kuningan Stadium, South Jakarta whilst the closing ceremony was held on Thurday, September 26, 2019 at Jakarta International Velodrome. This big national sporting event was financially supported by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, Provincial Province of DKI Jakarta and Sponsors.

Prior to Press Conference of POMNAS XVI 2019 was held a testimony session at 6:30 a.m by the recipients of affirmation scholarship from Papua. Ella, one of the representatives, extended her deep acknowledgement for having face-to-face opportunity to meet the Minister, Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir. Ella was giving her aspiration upon education in Indonesia which has to be equally implemented particularly in Papua. In addition, she suggested building a school dormitory for the grant recipients to increase effective and efficient mobility while performing activities in campus.

Prof. M, Nasir directly responded it at the Lobby of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Building, “I really appreciate all of your aspirations uttered on this occasion, and the aspirations will be collected, evaluated, and further considered. Following the press conference program, all of the invitees were asked to together participate in Fun Walk at the Main Bung Karno Stadium.
