Chulalongkorn University and Universitas Negeri Jakarta Comparative Study

Public Relations UNJ 17/1/2019. The use of pesticides by Indonesian local farmers to keep plants healthy and growing is increasing. Unfortunately, apart from some positive results, there are also negative impacts of using pesticides for plants, one of which is improper pesticide containers disposal. The waste of pesticide containers can be a great concern for human health.

On Wednesday (16/1), Rector ad interim of Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Prof. Intan Ahmad, along with Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation Affairs, Dr. Achmad Ridwan and his staff welcomed the Comparative Study participants, which are students of Chulalongkorn University Bangkok-Thailand on the 2nd floor of Gedung Rektorat UNJ. This event was held mainly to talk about Empty Pesticide Container Management. The management of the pesticide container refers to the industry and government’s program to gather and throw away tons of agricultural industry materials. This Comparative Study is fully supported by CropLife Indonesia.

The program will last for four weeks. Eight students of Chulalongkorn University will be divided into 2 groups. The first group will be accompanied by four UNJ students, and they will go to one of the farmers in Karawang to identify and analyze how the farmers manage empty pesticide containers. The second group will also be accompanied by four UNJ students. They will analyze one company that manages empty pesticide containers, map the availability of the company, the transportation to carry hazardous materials, and the costs incurred to deal with all of that.

“This is an opportunity for our students to develop their potential because, through this program, they can directly interact with students of Chulalongkorn University. This international collaboration will also bring benefits in this era,” said Prof. Intan Ahmad on his opinion about the meeting. The result of this Comparative Study will be used to support the company’s decision regarding container management.
