UNJ Public Relations 09/25/2018 – Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) conducted its even semester graduation of 2017/2018 which held on Tuesday, September 25th 2018, located in Hall D2 Jakarta International PRJ Kemayoran. In this event, UNJ has given rise bachelors, masters and doctors with total number of 3,944. UNJ invited an inspiring young figure that delivered his scientific oration to motivate the graduates. He is Adamas Belva Syah Devara, the CEO and co-founder Ruangguru.com. It is a start-up company that concerned on Indonesian education and has had a positive impact to education in Indonesia.

 

In his speech, Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, highlighted “education to employment”. He described that in 2012 the relation between education and employment in the entire world, either government or business sectors has faced a big obstacle which is the educated unemployment who are lack of adequate critical skills.

Related to that, occurred some questions: “How can particular country succeed in moving young people from education to work-life? How to become a productive citizen? What are the problems? How we alleviate the gap between education life and true working-life? The data shows that the stakeholders, employers, university and students have different opinion towards “the readiness for fresh graduates,” said Rector.

Acting Rector further explained that real working-life is needed the complexion of skills which is far different from what the university has provided. The most required skills are work habit, communication, teamwork, and the ability in foreign languages, write, read, and mathematics; those are the things that we need to master of.

 

Rector also has a message to all graduates to become entrepreneur or job creator, not the one who are seek for a job. Besides that, the graduates are expected to create a newest science and technology as the prime concept to compete in developing our country, the 4th revolution industry also counted in. “Because the thing is substantially important to the graduates of UNJ to complete their soft and hard skills, knowledge, and skills that support their carrier in the future. The graduates will face the obstacles in mastering their future profession skill. Read, write, and mathematics, because that old literacy is not enough. As the modals to jump in the society, mastering the newest literacy is required. It covers data literacy, technology literacy, and human literacy. Total amount of  UNJ alumni has reached 116.085 that spread to all over the country. UNJ has potential prominent role in developing the country” asserted Acting Rector.
