Public Relations of UNJ (8/19/2019) – Beginning the Academic Year 2019/2020, 5,516 new students to have been admitted in eight faculties of Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), participated in Campus Life Orientation for New Students (PKKMB UNJ 2019) on Monday, 19th August 2019 at 8 a.m. in Athletic Stadium of Sports Building Rawamangun East Jakarta This event was attended also by Head of Education Office of Jakarta Special Capital Territory (DKI Jakarta), Dr. Suharno, Chairman of the UNJ Senate, Prof. Hafid Abbas, Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D., Vice Rectors, Deans of Faculties, Head of Institutions, and Head of Bureaus of UNJ. This 2019 PKKMB has been the second work program ever since 2018. This program was a transformation of similar activity, which was formerly named Academic Orientation Period (MPA). PKKMB UNJ 2019 is executed to meet the vision and mission of UNJ. The Head of PKKMB, Prof. Sofyan Hanif proclaimed the theme of this year event “Glorious Youth with Work Heading to Indonesia and Asia.”

PKKMB 2019 is implemented with a view to preparing new students to pass through transition process to become an adult and independent personal so that they will be able to adapt an adjust themselves with new environment. PKKMB can be a turning point for cultivating idealism, strengthening love to the country, and building a culture of caring for the environment. In addition, this activity can create religious and independent characters having sense of nationalism, mutual cooperation and integrity. PKKMB can also be a means of embedding five mental revolution movement programs, namely Indonesia serves, Indonesia clean, Indonesia orderly, Indonesia independent, Indonesia united. It is expected that this activity equip students, who will later be alumni of UNJ, with in-depth knowledge, noble morals, sense of love to nation, and global competitiveness. To meet the objective of PKKMB UNJ 2019, students will be addressed to such topics as: Cultivating the cultural values, ethics, and character; Critical, Academic and anti-plagiaristic thinking; Success Ways of Learning in College; Role of higher education in industrial revolution 4.0; State Defense and love to the country; as well as the local materials in conjunction with the needs of the faculties and departments.

Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D. was welcoming the new students to UNJ. He uttered, “It is not that easy to be admitted in UNJ because it applies a strict selection. You may find a department with ratio 1:200. So, it is evident that you are best of the best. He also added that being a college student will not be the same as being a high school student. A college student has to be proactive and fully responsible. He or she has to be able to manage his or her time either for study or social activities. In his last remarks, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D. suggested maximally making use of the time for both academic and social activities so that students will not have only been experts in specific fields but also understood and mastered other things like soft skills required for 21st century i.e. communication, collaboration, critical thinking.

Main agenda of PKKMB was next symbolized by having Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D, along with the officials, ring a siren to officially open PKKMB 2019 event followed with putting university jacket on eight students respectively representing their faculties. New students of 2019 were presenting paper mob in this PKKMB session which drew the national flag of Indonesia, Red and White as a token to commemorate the Independence Day of 17th August 1945. Next, the session was cheered by a flash mob and fun aerobics activities performed by new students, together with Acting Rector and his officials at the Athletic Stadium. A series of PKKMB activities 2019 began from 17th August to 5th September 2019. In the end of this activity the new students will be engaged in a State Defense program and soft skills learning.
