National Seminar on Sports Innovation

Public Relations of UNJ (7/2/2019) – Faculty of Sports Science (FIO), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) was organizing a National Seminar on Sports Innovation on Wednesday, 31st July 2019 at Latief Hendraningrat Auditorium, Dewi Sartika Building Fl. 2, Campus A UNJ. The seminar chose a theme of “Building Sportsmen with Global Competitiveness in Digital Era.” Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, attended the seminar and became the keynote speaker. The Vice Retor for Students Affairs, Prof. Dr. Achmad Sofyan Hanif, M.Pd., Dean of FIO, Dr. Abdul Sukur, M.Si., lecturers, and guests from other universities, the Professor of FIO, UNY, Prof. Dr. Wawan S. Suherman, M.Pd were also seen as attendees in the event.

This activity is a pilot program held by FIO UNJ that will later be regularly conducted twice a year. Students particularly of FIO UNJ in this digital era are not only demanded for gaining achievement in sports events but also in academic fields. Therefore, this seminar aims to improve students’ understanding of the importance of academic publication. There were totally 230 participants consisting of students of undergraduate (S1) and postgraduate (S2, S3) programs of UNJ as well as participants from other universities.

Dr. Abdul Sukur pointed out that “One way to build an effective nation is by doing sports because it is able to define the culture and to shape a sense of belongings as part of the nation and country. Further, sport has been the most effective means of building national identity.” He also noted that this sports seminar should be a regular program followed with an international seminar in sports.

Acting Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad in the opening presented his material entitled “The Role of Higher Education in an Innovative Research in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. He was pleasingly welcome this event since it will lead us to keep improving our sports in such a manner. He elaborated,”Industrial Revolution 4.0 will replace human’s role with machinery, robots, or application programs. A higher educational institution should play a role by educating prospective graduates to be well prepared for getting involved in job fields which may have no longer existed in the future; therefore, they must learn to be innovative.” He said in his presentation that innovation means to be a change of something better. Innovation in Indonesian still refers to a product and production process. Indeed, it can actually refer to good management in an organization. Nowadays in a global competition of scientific field, Indonesia ranks 62nd out of 70 countries; thus, it is urgent that this field be concerned and improved for global competitiveness. Global competitiveness can be met through three aspects namely Higher Education and Training, Science & Technology, Innovation & Technological Readiness. In terms of innovation ability, Indonesia ranks 78th out of 129 countries whilst it ranks 7th among ASEAN countries.

Besides Prof. Intan, Ph.D., the seminar invited other three speakers; they are Prof. Wawan S. Suherman, M.Pd., presenting his paper entitled Building Skill of Sports Researchers who Have Innovation and Global Competitiveness, Prof. Dr. dr. James Tangkudung, M.Pd., presenting his paper entitled Implementation of Blended Learning in Physical Education in Industrial Revolution 4.0., and Fajar Vidya Hartono, M.Pd., with his paper entitled Technological Innovation for Disabled Swimmers.
