Rector of State University of Jakarta (UNJ), Prof. Intan Ahmad Ph.D, in front of the graduates, parents, and invited guests at the UNJ Graduation Semester Gasal Academic Year 2017/2018, Thursday, March 15, 2018. At the graduation held at Hall D2 Jakarta International Expo PRJ Kemayoran, Plt. The Rector delivered a speech highlighting “The Challenges and Roles of Universities and Their Graduates in Facing Global Competition”. State University of Jakarta inaugurated as many as 1,406 graduates, consisting of 1991 Faculty of Education, graduates; Language and Arts Faculty of 172 graduates; Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of 170 graduates; Faculty of Social Sciences as many as 235 graduates; Faculty of Engineering as many as 258 graduates; Faculty of Sport Science as many as 104 graduates; Economic Faculty of 122 graduates; Faculty of Psychology Education as many as 10 graduates; and Graduate Program as many as 136 graduates, especially for Postgraduate program there is 1 foreign graduate who come from South Korea, and 1 person from Thailand.

Plt. The Rector explains, by 2030, the Indonesian population has a proportion of the majority of productive ages reaching more than 60% (demographic bonus). The projection of Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) in 2017, due to this demographic bonus, Indonesia in 2050 has the potential to become the fourth largest economy in the world after China, India, the United States, beyond Japan, Germany and Britain. The great potential can be realized if we are able to prepare skilled workers who are educated to the highest level, a generation with global vision and high competitiveness, including entrepreneurs, so that by the year 2045 this generation will be a leader in world level.

Closing his speech, Plt. The Rector advised the graduates to be lifelong learners (life-long learner). As intellectuals, do not be complacent, keep learning and continue to foster an optimism mindset about the possibilities and future changes, always looking for the best opportunities through learning, re-learning, anticipating, and reinventing. As an integral part of society, always cultivate social responsibility, continuously integrate, commit and contribute positively to society.
