Open Senate Session Marks the Opening of the 55th UNJ Anniversary

Public Relations UNJ (16/5/2019) Universitas Negeri Jakarta commemorates its 55th anniversary. The Open Senate Meeting in the framework of the 55th UNJ Anniversary was held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Brigadier General Latief Hendraningrat’s Hall, Dewi Sartika Building, Campus A, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. “Synergizing Towards a Reputable UNJ in the Asian Region” was chosen to be the theme for this 55th anniversary. The 55th UNJ Anniversary event was attended by several guests of honor, including the Secretary of the Inspector General of Kemenristekdikti, Dr. Yusrial Bachtiar, Ak., MM., CA., Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO (KNIU), Ministry of Education and Culture, Prof. Dr. Arif Rachman, M.Pd., Rector of Universitas Sultan Agung Tirtayasa, Prof. Dr. Sholeh Hidayat, M.Pd., Former Minister of Industry of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. dr. Fachmi Idris, M.Kes., Dean of the Faculty of Defense Engineering at the Universitas Pertahanan, Dr. Romie Octavian Bura. B. Eng (Hons) M. RAeS., and Head of the UNJ Partner Banks; Bukopin, BNI, Mandiri, and BTN.

Looking back on its long journey, UNJ as a State University was originally University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, then based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science (PTIP) No. 55/1963 on May 16, 1964, was inaugurated as IKIP Jakarta. The date was then designated as the Anniversary of IKIP Jakarta. In its development, on August 4, 1999, based on Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 93/1999, IKIP Jakarta was given the mandate to become Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Since Prof. Dr. Iman Santoso as the Rector of IKIP Jakarta Presidium in 1964 up until now, UNJ has been led by 13 Rectors / Ad Interim Rectors / Presidium Chairpersons. UNJ has also given birth to some national education figures, including Prof. Winarno Surakhman, Prof. Dr. Conny R. Semiawan, and Prof. Dr. H.A.R. Tilaar.

Ad Interim Rector of UNJ, Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D., in his opening speech said that the 55th Anniversary of UNJ was a stage to reflect on various aspects that influenced the journey of UNJ in competing with other universities to become a reputable university. “UNJ as an institution that has a role in teacher education needs to continue to improve itself so that it can play an active role in changing Indonesia’s quality of education,” he said. In line with this year’s anniversary theme, he also invited all elements in UNJ to work together in building a reputable UNJ, especially while facing the industrial revolution 4.0. In this UNJ Anniversary, a scientific speech with the theme “Reconceptualization of Transformative University Framework in the Development of Reputable Universities” was given by a Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences lecturer, Yuli Rahmawati, M.Sc., Ph.D. In her speech, Yuli Rahmawati said that there were 5 (five) points that needed to be done to become a Reputable University, namely; Learning Organization, Progressive Curriculum, Transformative Learning Experiences, Transformative Research, and Community Services, and Empowering Graduate’s Attributes. Ad Interim rector of UNJ also gave Aditya Karya Nugraha awards to three best lecturers: Prof. Dr. Hafid Abbas, Prof. Dr. Harsuki, M.A., and Prof. Dr. Ir. Dali Santun Naga, MMSI. Aditya Karya Nugraha is an award given to Universitas Negeri Jakarta lecturers, both active and retired, who were considered to have superior, noble, and brilliant works and achievements. The Bhakti Karya Nugraha Award was also given to Mahaputera Kesumanegara Saputra, S.S.T., as an education staff who through his superior work and extraordinary services in governance, development and service society showed his loyalty to the country.

The series of 55th UNJ Anniversary celebration itself has started since April 5, 2019, until July 31, 2019. Various activities and events are carried out by each unit at UNJ for approximately four months, including National Seminar, International Seminar, Discussion, Book Review, Talkshow, Research Expo, Publication Days, Achievement Awards for Lecturers & Education Personnel, Competitions, Exhibitions, and Social Activities.
